  1. The meeting was called to order at 4:25 by CAFCS President, Janet Pope.
  2. Agenda was approved.
  3. The minutes from the June 23, 2007 Executive Board Meeting were approved as printed.
  4. Treasurers Report: The treasurer’s report was presented by Duane Whitbeck. As of Jan 1, 2008 balance is $62868.69
  5. Standing Committee Reports:
    • Dorothy Mitstifer reported 80 CAFCS members for 08-09
    • Billie Collier presented newly elected officers for 2008: Richard Glotzer , President Elect, Jim Painter, Vice President Elect. The nominating committee is Angela Ratford Lewis and Valerie Colyard. Thanks to 07-08 committee!
      • Informative: Position for President Elect is limited by executive handbook statement of elected position. Consider changing so we have a broader base to pull from for the position. This will go to the bylaws committee for revision.
      • Billie presented a written report of the work of the Strategic Planning Committee. Plan is linked to the POW . Last year one of the items considered was outsourcing for membership. This was added to POW this year to finalize.
      • POW was presented by Jan Shane Murphy. Four primary goals in the POW and the strategic plan are embedded: 1)Leadership development-mentor the future leaders; 2)Issues in higher educ-how do we continue to have meetings and improve our program; 3)Teaming with other organizations; and 4) Ensure that CAFCS runs smoothly .
    • Duane presented a written budget report. Based on past history the POW discretionary income should allow sufficient flexibility.
    • Budget was approved as printed.
Annual Meeting thank you to Richard Glotzer and Kay Wilder. Applause
There were 38-40 people at each session.
Communications: Dorothy Mitstifer worked with committees using database to help with nominations and annual meeting . Dorothy has 365 people in her databases.
  6. Old Business:
  7. TFPA co chairs Duane Whitbeck and Billie Collier reported concerns. Billie reported history. The finished product allows one to look at the structure of different FCS units /programs and make comparisons. Effort was made to make the database friendly and provide resources. See the CAFCS website to access.
    • Nomenclature: name change from home economics to family and consumer sciences in Library of Congress destination…family and consumer sciences now has its own subject heading . This is still a grassroots effort.
    • There are still some programs in secondary using home economics nomenclature. Idea Student Evaluation SIR Form from Kansas State still using home economics.
    • Connor Walters presented progress on contract with Dorothy Mitstifer so Dorothy can be compensated for work this past year. We need to revise the bylaws
    • Motion made by Alyce Akers to compensate Dorothy Mitstifer for retroactive and future work done on the CAFCS database. Retroactive from July. This should be referred to the board. Second by Jorge Atiles.
    • IFHE call for Letters of Interest presented by Dorothy Mitstifer. Need letter of interest by Feb 12, 2008 to go to Jan Shane Murphy. Representative will report back to the CAFCS. Question : Is our representative automatically a delegate? You have to be officially appointed as a delegate. A letter must be printed on official letter head so representative can be a delegate. Must also be a member of IFHE to be a delegate.
  8. New Business:
    • Dorothy Mitstifer has been contacted several times to provide the membership database with different organizations and/or institutions. What is our stand? Prefer that it be protected but we don’t have a policy. Both home and school addresses are on our database so instead of providing list to all, would you be interested in having a space on the website for newsletters? Discussion followed.
    • Consensus to database sharing is no! Do not make list available to member institutions.
    • Provide Space on the website for postings university news, books, etc. Should have a time line for longevity. We need to write a policy before the June meeting. Dorothy and Connor will write one.
    • Connor Walters will be looking for programming that we can do at BOHS. One suggestion is to invite Tina Gondalas to speak on Bullying. Let her know of other topics and/or speakers. No date available. Part of problem with BOHS is timing with CAFCS in off year.
    • Kitty Coffey has verified that 2010 is our 50 th Anniversary. Co-chairs Richard Glotzer & Diane Richardson. Kitty Coffey suggested St. Simons or Ameila Island/Fly into Jacksonville or Savannah. Committee members: Kitty, Shirley Hymen-Parker and Jane Dennis. The Palmer House in Chicago was the site of first meeting. Discussion followed about having meeting in Chicago or someplace that has better weather in February. Goal is to get back former members.
  9. Connor Walters will chair the New and Emerging Admin Workshop. ISU would like to host. Connor needs volunteers to help. The next session will be 2011.
  10. Greetings from Susan Rickards Phi Upsilon Omicron. Next meeting in Minneapolis Sept 26-27 .Showing of historical items and futurist speaker. Today is last day for applications for students. Carolyn Barnhart is
