Assistant/Associate Professor of Family & Consumer Sciences - Carson-Newman University

Carson-Newman University invites applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Family & Consumer Sciences in the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences. The position is a full-time, 9 month, tenure-track to begin August 2017.

Candidates for the position must have an earned doctorate in Human Development/Child and Family Studies with at least one degree from a family and consumer sciences unit; demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in child development and family studies; prepare students to work with children and families and earn TN teacher licensure in early childhood education (pre K-3); provide consultation to the director of the Child Development Laboratory; commitment to teamwork, scholarship, and professional involvement including attainment of the Certified in Family and Consumer Sciences (CFCS) credential and the Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) credential.

Candidates for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor will be expected to teach 24 semester hours per year, advise students in the discipline, and lead curriculum development in Child and Family Studies/Early Childhood Education. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the university and department missions, be a collegial member of the institution at all levels, participate in professional and scholarly activities, and provide services to the department and to the community-at-large.

The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences is fully accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. It currently offers four majors including Consumer Services with emphases in Fashion Merchandising and Design and Interior Design, NCATE accredited programs leading to eligibility for teacher licensure in Child and Family Studies: Early Childhood Education and Family and Consumer Sciences Education, and Foods and Nutrition with an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).

The rank and salary will be commensurate with educational preparation and experience. Group life and health insurance as well as a 401K retirement plan are available on a participating basis.
