Assistant Professor, Extension Nutrition Specialist - New Mexico State University

Position: Assistant Professor
Full-time, 12-month Tenure-track position

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience

The following qualifications are required:

A doctoral degree (in hand by hire date) in Food and Nutrition or closely related field;

Basic understanding of the Cooperative Extension Service and the land-grant mission;

Ability to conduct research and evaluation projects;

Ability to provide leadership and coordination with county agents in planning, organizing, and directing educational programs related to nutrition throughout the lifecycle;

Proven ability to maintain positive relationships, to use oral and written communication skillfully, and to work with people from varied ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds;

Ability to interpret food and nutrition research and community to public and lay audiences;

Ability to adapt to changing and wide-ranging technologies.

The following additional qualifications are desired:

Registered dietitian.

Training or experience in community nutrition.

Extension and/or teaching experience.

Experience obtaining and managing grants.

Position Description: The Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Department in the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences is seeking a tenure-track member in Foods and Nutrition. This is a 12-month extension appointment at the Assistant Professor level. The person hired will provide statewide leadership for programs in foods and nutrition and collaborate with county faculty in developing, implementing, and assessing nutrition programs. The applicant will be expected to conduct research and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.

Las Cruces is the second largest city in New Mexico with more than 100,000 residents. Las Cruces is located in Doña Ana County (population 210,000) and is situated at the foot of the picturesque Organ Mountains. The greater Las Cruces community is an attractive place to live and raise a family with easy access to the metropolitan area of El Paso, Texas, an abundance of outdoor recreational activities, a moderate climate (350 days of sunshine per year), an excellent public school system, and a relatively low cost of living.
