Carson-Newman University invites applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Family & Consumer Sciences in the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences.  The position is a full-time, 9 month, tenure-track to begin August 2015.

Candidates for the position must have an earned doctorate in interior design, housing and design, or other related subject matter area in family and consumer sciences if combined with a master's degree in interior design; demonstrated successful teaching experience in higher education; TN Interior Design licensure eligibility; and commitment to teamwork, scholarship, and professional involvement including attainment of the Certified in Family and Consumer Sciences (CFCS) credential.

Qualifications: Doctorate in nutrition, nutritional science, public health or closely related area from an accredited university is required. In addition to general training as a marriage and family therapist, the master's degree program provides students with training in collaborative healthcare, rural mental health, and tele‐mental health. Students in the doctoral program have opportunities in global mental health. The Assistant Professor of Child and Family Development is a full-time, ten month, tenure-track position in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences in the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology.

Responsibilities: 

  • Teach professional undergraduate level courses
  • Advise undergraduate students in the major
  • Coordinate and supervise student field experiences
  • Coordinate on-going curriculum development activities to include web-based courses to accommodate traditional and nontraditional students
  • Develop, and maintain positive community relations with relevant child and family agencies; child and family development centers and other community outreach organizations
  • Develop personal and undergraduate research, particularly as it relates to child development and family relations
  • Serve on College, Departmental, and University committees
  • Seek external funds to support program activities and student scholarships
  • Provide oversight and supervision of the Child Development Lab
  • Participate in the continuous assessment, of student learning outcomes
  • Provide service to the university and professional organizations
  • Assist students in acquiring Internships
  • Actively participate in recruitment of students
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
