Purpose:
The primary purpose of this position is to design, teach, implement, and evaluate educational programs focusing broadly on financial management education, including budgeting, credit, saving, investing, and other key personal finance topics for a secure financial future. The goal for this program is to engage Southern Maryland residents in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and expertise needed to effectively manage their resources to achieve financial well-being.  

RESPONSIBILITIES The School of Family, Consumer, and Nutrition Sciences at Northern Illinois University seeks applications for an anticipated 9 month, tenure-track faculty position in Family and Consumer Economics at the assistant professor level to begin August, 2014. The successful candidate is expected to have a focus on consumer science and family resource management research. Northern Illinois University ( www.niu.edu ) is a Doctoral/Research extensive university with a diverse student body of over 22,000 located 65 miles west of Chicago.

The position is housed in the area of Family and Child Studies of the School of Family, Consumer, and Nutrition Sciences. The School has 22 full-time faculty members and five supportive professional staff. Being a team member in the Family and Child Studies Program involves activities in the areas of research, teaching and service. Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in consumer issues, family relations, family life education, family financial planning, and management of human and family resources, and serve as director of theses. Tenure-track faculty also are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship, participate in school and university committee work including curriculum and program development.
