2005 Survey of Human Sciences Institutions

Announcing the 2005 Survey of Human Sciences Institutions, sponsored by the
Board on Human Sciences
and the
Council of Administrators in Family and Consumer Sciences.

This is the inaugural year for the Survey of Human Sciences Institutions (SHSI), a national annual survey that will be used to track trends and financial health in colleges of Human Sciences. The survey is being conducted on behalf of BOHS and CAFCS by FAEIS (Food, Agriculture and Education Information Systems). The survey is sponsored by a grant from USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service (CSREES). The lead contact for SHSI is Dr. Dennis Savaiano, Dean, College of Consumer and Family Sciences, Purdue University.

The SHSI survey will be sent to Human Sciences administrators at all associated BOHS and CAFCS institutions. If you have received this message then you have been identified as the recipient for the SHSI survey for your institution.

Data from SHSI will be combined with institutional enrollment, degree, placement, and faculty data collected in the annual FAEIS surveys; it is ESSENTIAL that your FAEIS surveys are complete. SHSI survey results will be published in electronic form annually by the FAEIS office.

SHSI survey results will be presented only in aggregate form. Data from individual institutions will not be available to the public or any entities beyond the FAEIS office. Enrollment, degrees awarded, and faculty survey data from FAEIS will be incorporated with SHSI survey data to provide a comprehensive look at Human Sciences in academia.

If you are already a user in the FAEIS system, you may access the SHSI survey from the MY SURVEYS section in FAEIS. You may also access SHSI at xxxxxxx or through the FAEIS website.

If you are not the appropriate recipient for the SHSI survey for your institution, please contact the FAEIS office by email or phone 540-231-4941 with the correct information.

SHSI is scheduled to open for data input on February 13, 2006. Questions about the SHSI survey should be directed to the FAEIS Help Desk. You may also contact Dennis Savaiano for questions related to this overall project.

SHSI consists of nine data entry forms. Unless otherwise noted, all data are collected across five (5) subject areas in Human Sciences (Foods and Nutrition; Hospitality; Human Development; Consumer Sciences; Other). The survey year is defined as the fiscal year from July 1, 2004 to June 30, 2005.
